Government and public authority data requests — our principles
Phlout LLC (“Phlout,” “we”) operates Birln. This page summarizes how we approach requests from governments and public authorities for user personal information we may hold.
This is a high-level statement for transparency. It is not a complete description of every law or every case, and it is not legal advice.
What we do
- We review requests to assess whether they appear valid and properly scoped before we disclose information.
- We may challenge requests we believe are unlawful or overbroad, when appropriate and consistent with legal advice we obtain.
- We aim to minimize what we disclose—only what is required by a valid request, in the narrowest reasonable form.
- We document requests and our responses, including who was involved and the reasoning at a level appropriate for our records (and as law requires).
- We may notify users when the law and the specific situation allow us to do so, after appropriate review.
What we do not promise here
We do not guarantee any particular outcome in a specific investigation. Some requests must stay confidential under law. Some situations require immediate action for safety—those still go through our internal process, and we seek legal advice as quickly as the facts allow (Phlout does not retain standing counsel).
